Bury Hill Peat-Free Composted Bark Fines are a sustainable growing medium made from 100% British spruce and mixed conifer bark. FSC® certified and graded to a 0–10mm particle size, this slightly acidic material is an excellent peat-free soil conditioner, helping to improve soil structure, increase stability, and enhance both moisture retention and drainage.

Produced from finely graded bark that has been composted for a minimum of 12 weeks, the material is regularly turned throughout the composting process to encourage aerobic decomposition. The result is a nutrient-rich, organic growing medium suitable for a wide variety of horticultural and landscaping applications. It is particularly effective for improving poor or depleted soils, releasing valuable minerals gradually as the bark naturally breaks down over time.

Sustainably sourced from British spruce and mixed conifer forests, our Composted Bark Fines have a naturally acidic pH of approximately 6.0–6.5. When applied regularly as a mulch or soil dressing, they can help lower soil pH, making them especially beneficial for acid-loving plants.
